The second day started early. I was out of bed by about 8am and downstairs to breakfast. The farmer was there along with his wife and another guest. The wife made a lovely full English breakfast comprising off bacon, sausage, egg, mushrooms, potato and toast.

Okay I was feeling depressed. I dont know why but I just couldnt be bothered doing anything. I even found it difficult getting out of the house. As for work this was a big no no. I think it was this which brought it on in the first place. I went to the doctors and he signed me off work with depression.

Treasure Tip of the Week Posted By : picman2

If your detector has a volume control, keep it set at a comfortable maximum target signal level. Dont confuse volume with audio (threshold) control. You may want to use a set of headphones with individual earphone volume adjustment so that you can set each one to suit yourself. Set the threshold level at the lowest sound level or hum that you can hear.

Testing The Garrett GTP 1350 Posted By : picman2

The GTP 1350 is not a GTI series detector, nor is it precisely a GTAx series either. So, which is it? I guess you could say it is, well, in a class by itself. It looks and performs as a GTAx detector with its LCD screen and control touchpads. Yet, among other things, it provides three separate classes of target size and thus the new Graphic Target Profiling designation.

As many of you know by now, Garretts Ace 250 is a metal detector that is very light on weight yet heavy on features and performance. Charles Garrett has not only responded to the call of customers who want an easy to use, real-world detector in a fatigue free package, but to top it off, he somehow offers it at a retail price of only $250.

Treasure Hunting With Metal Detectors Posted By : picman2

People who use metal detectors for treasure hunting do tend to run up against an image problem. The media and comedians like Steve Martin have poked a lot of fun at people who use these detectors. But perhaps treasure hunters can have the last laugh when their detectors turn up something valuable, which has happened in the past and is sure to happen again in the near future.

Metal Detecting - Coin Hunting or Coin Shooting Hot Spots Posted By : picman2

Hunting or 'Coin Shooting' as it's often called, is not only very fun to do, but it can easily be very profitable. Finding just one gold piece or any rare coin can easily pay for the cost of the metal detector. When it comes to Coin Hunting or 'Coin Shooting', there are some places that I call 'hot spots', or the best places.

What Is A Metal Detector Posted By : picman2

As the name suggests a Metal Detector is a kind of instrument, which is used to detect metal with the help of electromagnetic induction. It helps in the detection of land mines, weapons like knives or guns at airports, in treasure hunting or in archeology. It can also be helpful in detecting foreign bodies in food. Construction industries find it useful in detecting steel reinforcing bars present in concretes, pipes, or wires in walls and floors. It can sense any electrically...

Most important Viking Treasure in 150 years found by metal detectorists in North Yorkshire Posted By : picman2

The father and son detecting team promptly reported the hoard to their local Finds Liaison Officer, and displayed exemplary behaviour in not unpacking all the objects from the bowl, but keeping the find intact. As a possible Treasure find, it was then transferred to the British Museum where conservators have carefully excavated each find to avoid damaging the individual objects or losing important contextual information.

Some of you are like me and like to keep metal detecting logs recording finds, including coin tallies, and places to hunt. I also like to record my thoughts on the day/hunt, keeping track of a useful tip I may have learned or noticed interesting behaviour on a target. Sometimes I like to review these during the 'off' season to get excited about my new Spring hunts.

Some of you may know that I recently purchased a Minelab Explore SE and have been having good luck recovering old nickels. Lots of the 'hunted out' spots are definitely pretty cleaned out, but everyone loves to leave behind the old nickels. I started to change my strategy a bit and focus on these, since I love finding old V-Nickels and Buffalos.

Metal detecting can be a heavy subject, full of science and study, or chance and fun. Some guides would have it that you need expensive equipment, a cartography degree, and a resistance to heat stroke. This is largely true, but you can start smaller.
